Deodorant DIY

Conventional deodorants come in a variety of forms: as deodorant sprays, for example, they contain greenhouse gases that are harmful to health and the environment, irritate the skin due to their alcohol content, and often contain artificially produced fragrances. The use of aluminium in many deodorant sprays has also been discussed as a health hazard. They also generate a lot of packaging waste. We present Anna's tried and tested recipe in the form of an ointment. First you need a small glass or an empty cosmetic jar. Then we come to the ingredients:

Ingredients:

-2 parts baking powder (available in any drugstore).

-1 part cornstarch (any kind)

-1-3 drops of essential oils (e.g. tea tree oil for its antibacterial properties AND lime, lavender or sage oil for the pleasant smell)

-3 parts fat or oil (coconut oil gives the most pleasant consistency and is good for dry skin types. Safflower oil, for example, is good for oily skin and can be bought locally).

Finally, weigh everything out, mix it all together and you're done!

Tips:

- Make sure you use clean/sterile tools and containers when making the deodorant.

- The deodorant needs to be stirred from time to time.
