Who are the active members of BUND Leipzig?

Our activists are involved in 17 working groups for our regional group. We would like to introduce them to you with our activist portraits. Every month a new activist portrait will be published here, in our newsletter and on social media.

Active members who would like to be featured with their own portrait can contact socialmedia(at)bund-leipzig.de.

Thomas

Thomas is a member of our photo and film group.

Thomas joined BUND because he feels an inner need to work for a nature and environment worth living in. On the one hand he loves nature, on the other hand he has an activist's heart beating in his chest. And so he has combined this feeling with his passion. Contributing to the positive development of our society through images gives him great satisfaction.

During his time with our Regional Group, Thomas has learnt that it takes commitment to bring good into this world. And, of course, it's most enjoyable when you're on the road with others.

Thomas has particularly fond memories of two campaigns to phase out lignite in the city of Leipzig. In 2019, there was an action in front of the Stadtwerke and one at the decision-makers' meeting in Leipzig's city centre. Thomas was able to capture this environmental moment with his camera.

For Leipzig, he hopes that the city will retain its quality of life and that there will be enough open space for people and animals: "From my point of view, we need to look at which investment projects really bring the city forward in a positive way. And last but not least, I hope that the urban space will be further developed with priority given to public transport, cycling and walking".

Anika

Anika is the spokesperson for our Post-Growth working group.

The more you look at our environmental problems, the bigger they seem. That's why Anika finds it so valuable to work constructively and actively with a strong team.

Anika also thinks: "The fact that Leipzig is already environmentally conscious is not only shown by the fact that the city has just become one of 100 model communities with the goal of becoming climate neutral by 2030, or by the fact that the city supports major campaigns such as Klimafair. However, it is important that the environment is always at the table when big decisions are made and that we get better here.

At the same time, she hopes that the people of Leipzig will not only appreciate nature when they walk through the forests and parks or take a deep breath at one of the lakes, but will also make a conscious effort to protect it.

Anna

Anna started working for BUND because she could no longer accept the growing environmental problems and wanted to play an active role in helping more people not to take our current conditions for granted, but to be shown ways in which they can make a difference.

During her time at BUND, she learned that it is not necessarily skills and knowledge that count. It is the motivation to want to make a difference and to work together as a team.

Anna's vision for a green and sustainable Leipzig: a car-free city centre with lots of green and flourishing squares. Instead of the many department stores, there are more meeting places for young and old, where people cook together, and collective cafés where people philosophise about living together in solidarity. Fruit and vegetables come from the many solidarity farms in the area.

Paula

Paula is active in our web design and agriculture & food working groups.

The actions and events where we can get together are always the coolest moments for her. That's when you realise that we can make a difference as a group.

Paula wanted to get involved in environmental protection and nature conservation in Leipzig. So she started her National Volunteer Service with the regional group. She was impressed by the motivation and commitment of the team and the volunteers and decided to continue volunteering after her BFD.

Her vision for a sustainable Leipzig: "More green spaces - which also promote biodiversity - for time out and recreation would strengthen our connection to nature. This is the key to a healthy and environmentally conscious life in Leipzig!

Martin

"As Chairman of BUND Leipzig, I am committed to making a meaningful contribution to preserving the basis of all our lives, together with like-minded people. BUND offers a sympathetic, well-connected, competent, independent, selfless framework from the local level in Leipzig to the international level. In BUND you are an effective part of a big whole: All people who want to make a constructive contribution can, in addition to membership, also participate themselves. I feel the need to conduct most of the get-to-know meetings myself and thus be available for questions, explanations and explanations of the opportunities to get involved. I look forward to meeting you in person. See you very soon."

Josephine

Josephine is a member of BUND Leipzig and active in the Urban Development and Transport working group.

"I am involved in BUND Leipzig to promote a change in transport in our city. For a liveable and sustainable Leipzig, we need strong public transport, safe cycling and walking routes, and less dirty air, noise and accidents. This is what we are working for together".

Martin

Martin is vice-chairman of BUND Leipzig and active in the climate and energy working group.

"I am involved in BUND Leipzig because I have found like-minded people who work together with me on the world of tomorrow - the way we want it to be. Planning and implementing something together fills me with energy, because I see myself as part of a bigger whole and think that we can achieve more as a team. I like having so many different working groups to choose from. Through my work with BUND I have already experienced many great things that I would never have experienced without my voluntary work. I have also met a lot of interesting people, even the leaders of the city council and other politicians - it is all very exciting and thrilling. I am growing with my tasks and trying new things that I would never have dared to do before.
